HumaniTV and Enzoology Education partner to conduct live broadcasts to schools in conjunction with medical aid expedition to Rama Indians of Nicaragua
AUSTIN, TEXAS – August 29, 2012 : HumaniTV, an Internet media and services firm committed to saving lives and impacting communities globally, today announced a partnership with Georgetown, Texas based, educational publisher Enzoology Education to conduct live broadcasts to schools in conjunction with delivering medical aid and supplies to the Rama Indians of Nicaragua.
The Rama Indians are a small tribe of indigenous people who live along the Mosquito Coast of Central America. In recent years, the tribe has dwindled to less than 800 people who live on less than fifty cents a day.
“The Special Forces and surgical staffers at HumaniTV are the best in the business at delivering austere medical support globally,” stated Enzoology Education CEO, Pete Monfre. “We are honored to partner with the HumaniTV team to deliver supplies and service to the indigenous tribes on the Mosquito Coast. Our approach to educating the youth of today with the science of tomorrow to positively impact the world, fits perfectly with HumaniTV’s mission to connect, train, equip and deploy individuals and institutions to save lives and impact communities.”
Enzoology produces a unique elementary and middle school video science program that features 11-14 year old hosts traveling the world performing scientific research. The program, Exploration Nation, is distributed nationally primarily to schools on-line. Exploration Nation combines high quality, documentary video with complete lesson materials designed to make science engaging for students and easy for educators to teach.
During the 14 day mission, the young hosts of Exploration Nation will work with EARTH University, National Instruments and the HumaniTV team to assist in a variety of scientific expeditions leading up to delivering supplies and medical support to the Rama people.
Slated for March 23rd-April 5th, the program will broadcast live each day from the jungles of Central America. This broadcast will be made available on on the HumaniTV Medical (medical.humani.tv) & Kids (kids.humani.tv) channels, and to classrooms across the U.S. at www.ExplorationNation.com. “Beyond producing a series of lesson programs on the expedition, Enzoology Education hopes to connect tens of thousands of kids directly to their Rama counterparts.” says Enzoology CEO Pete Monfre. “The live broadcast is a great way to share the adventure with kids while putting the science in context with the realities of disparate culture and quality of life issues.”
The live production is expected to utilize a new portable technology from SpeedStream.tv. “It’s essentially a TV studio in a backpack.” says SpeedStream.tv’s founder Doug Watkins. “Our system can stream live over virtually any type of connection from wifi and satellite to 4G, 3G or whatever you can find where ever you are.”
One planned expedition entitled “The Last Shaman” focuses on understanding the ecosystem of the rain forest through the eyes of an indigenous Rama Shaman. The team will also be setting up sensors utilizing National Instruments myDAQ data acquisition system to collect a variety of data for analysis.
